Gear up for German MICE business!

CONVENE is coming closer: From 11 to 12 February the exhibition will take place in Vilnius, Lithuania. Johanna Fischer, Managing Director of tmf dialogue marketing, will be speaking about two topics – the German meetings market and digital content marketing in a b2b environment. tmf/piranha invite you to join the two sessions.CONVENE in Vilnius, Lithuania

Gear up for German MICE business
(10th February 2015, 15:05-15:50, repeated 16:10-16:55, Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva)

The workshop will provide an overview on the German-speaking outbound meetings market. It also will explain why old-school marketing methods do no longer work and how they need to be amended to build up market presence and business in one of the most competitive markets by using contemporary tools and methods.

Using content to create engagement in the meetings and events industry
(11th February, 13:30 – 14:15, LITEXPO)

Do you struggle with sourcing or archiving of content, do you worry you don’t have enough to tell in a blog or have you heard about newsrooms, re-distributing,  re-using, consolidation and optimizing content and the communication flow? And how can you create engagement in a b2b environment where everybody is too busy to even look at most information? This workshop will give you a short outline of possibilities and case studies and show you how to build interesting stories in order to engage your clients, audiences or event participants. An attempt to make the complex world of content and social marketing simple and easy to manage!

Moreover, Johanna Fischer will talk about the Indian market and the digital communication during two campfires – informal and interactive exchanges to different topics.

Getting globalisation and content right

Johanna Fischer on globalisation and content ©tmf

During the recently concluded IMEX in Frankfurt, I was asked to share my views on ‘globalisation’ as part of the IMEX education programme.  I don’t consider myself an expert on this, but I thought about the challenges we face in our office in India; to find a new approach that fits the needs of our Indian planners and how different the Indian market is from the European market. While this has been a great and enriching learning experience, it has required extra effort to make our marketing ideas match the realities of an emerging market.

I think there is only one practical formulafor success in a global approach. While it may seem easy to strategise in emerging markets – it is another issue to be willing to go beyond your comfort zone and dip deep into different cultures, different value standards, different negotiation habits (and backgrounds). Without the will and also the joy, to explore this difference and ‘newness’, all efforts will result in unsatisfying relationships and misunderstandings.

We all know that we should be thinking globally but acting locally, but it is a bit more complex than this. Having someone else act locally for you (as a service provider) does not relieve you from the challenge, taking the effort to bridge the gap does. Generosity, understanding, bonding, learning  –  in short, achieving cultural competence for your emerging markets – is the formula you need.

Global solutions, for example for communication management and news flow, are the needs of the hour. This means delivering smart solutions and a sensible consolidation of existing channels and strategies. The PRISMAHUB news management service which we use, is the perfect underlying tool for diversified communication strategies, using sources and information and molding them for the needs of different communities.

There is more to it than just communication. Following IMEX we offered – together with the Berlin Convention Bureau – an intercultural workshop about the Indian meetings market, the market’s perceptions, case studies of events from India to Berlin and the challenges that arose in the co-operation between the Indian client and the German service provider.  The case studies demonstrated that both sides need to ‘bow in order to make the project round’ i.e. to compromise to reach a mutually successful outcome.

Bow respectfully! Good luck and as you know, we are always happy to help.

tmf-connect breakfast on 21st of May: We say thank you!

tmf-connect breakfast at IMEX ©tmf

IMEX 2014 has closed its doors – and brought lots of new ideas and inspiration for the meeting and event business!

After a very busy first day at the show, we started with a relaxed breakfast into the second day. On Wednesday, May 21st, we welcomed to our guests and co-sponsors of the networking breakfast tmf-connect at NH City Hotel Frankfurt.  To introduce the nine tmf-connect co-sponsors, we tried something new: Each supplier has prepared an inspiring and very entertaining one minute elevator pitch. A clock was ticking from 60 seconds towards zero, bustle for our co-sponsors? No way -  they did a pretty good job! Monica Petermann from Convention Bureau della Riviera di Rimini for example created red signs for a better visualisation of services for events in Rimini.

Together with our co-sponsors (see listed below) we were enjoying a lively good morning conversation with all kinds of information for MICE business partners. After the breakfast, together we were heading to the fair ground of IMEX by shuttle bus. At this point, we would like to thank our humorous bus driver who had little problems to find the right direction straightaway and presented an adventurous sightseeing trip through Frankfurt city. But finally, he got it! :-)

Many thanks to all who enjoyed an unforgettable IMEX Frankfurt 2014 together with us! We are looking forward to seeing everyone of you again and wish you great success and fun for the upcoming days!

See you at IMEX 2015!

Johanna Fischer speaks at IMEX 2014

IMEX in Frankfurt is coming closer. This year, our Managing Director Johanna Fischer will be speaking about two interesting topics – once at the Campfire and once at the Tech Hub.

tmf/piranha invite you to join the two sessions and learn more about how to boost destination marketing with creative stories on different channels and how to (re-)use your content (text, pictures, videos) in the most effective way.

Campfire 1 – IMEX-CIC Inspiration Centre, Show Floor, Stand G680, May 20th, 11:30 – 12:00

MICE Destination Marketing with a Digital Twist – What Kind of Stories Work Best?

In this session we want to discuss case studies and examples of how to integrate social media in traditional projects like famtrips, sales calls and promotional events. Please discuss with your colleagues examples of what you think works or does not work in your business environment and think about examples from your own experience that you want to discuss in this campfire.

Tech Hub, Show Floor, Stand C700, May 22nd, 12:30 – 13:00

User Your Digital Content to Generate Engagement

Around every meeting or event a lot of content and know-how is generated… but is it really used to successfully generate engagement, warm up the audience and generate media visibility? Often meetings or events are poorly optimised in terms of content management. How can a corporate planner or an agency event planner use existing content (= re-purpose the existing content) to enhance their work and to provide sophisticated news flows?

Going green – European Cities Marketing spring meeting in Belfast

The ECM Spring meeting in Belfast takes place from February 26-28 and will be devoted to future challenges for smart cities, green meetings and sustainable tourism.

Green initiatives and eco-tourism seem to fit better with our idea of conserving and protecting the natural environment rather than our urban spaces. National institutions are often the ones charged with providing policies, platforms, agendas and legislation to steer our way through one of the most pressing challenges of our times. However, sustainability is much more than green initiatives.

Today, our managing director Johanna Fischer holds a workshop in the Best Practice Session for members of the Meeting Industry Forum. She talks about “Communication in a multi- and social media environment – the question is no longer ‘if’ but ‘how’ to make it work best for your organisation!” and  – together with Heike Mahmoud, Director Convention with Berlin Convention Office – about “ECM road show in India – the feedback of a very succesful experience”.
