Content Marketing Meeting Industry

Destination Content Marketing

Destination Content Marketing, © tmf dialogue marketing

Gear up for German MICE business!

CONVENE is coming closer: From 11 to 12 February the exhibition will take place in Vilnius, Lithuania. Johanna Fischer, Managing Director of tmf dialogue marketing, will be speaking about two topics – the German meetings market and digital content marketing in a b2b environment. tmf/piranha invite you to join the two sessions.CONVENE in Vilnius, Lithuania

Gear up for German MICE business
(10th February 2015, 15:05-15:50, repeated 16:10-16:55, Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva)

The workshop will provide an overview on the German-speaking outbound meetings market. It also will explain why old-school marketing methods do no longer work and how they need to be amended to build up market presence and business in one of the most competitive markets by using contemporary tools and methods.

Using content to create engagement in the meetings and events industry
(11th February, 13:30 – 14:15, LITEXPO)

Do you struggle with sourcing or archiving of content, do you worry you don’t have enough to tell in a blog or have you heard about newsrooms, re-distributing,  re-using, consolidation and optimizing content and the communication flow? And how can you create engagement in a b2b environment where everybody is too busy to even look at most information? This workshop will give you a short outline of possibilities and case studies and show you how to build interesting stories in order to engage your clients, audiences or event participants. An attempt to make the complex world of content and social marketing simple and easy to manage!

Moreover, Johanna Fischer will talk about the Indian market and the digital communication during two campfires – informal and interactive exchanges to different topics.

tmf dialogue marketing to support the Tourism New Zealand Business Events team in Europe

The German marketing agency from Würzburg will support New Zealand in international conference bidding and as the representative for business events coming from Europe

Commencing 1 July 2014, continental Europe’s leading agency for business events marketing, communication and market research, tmf dialogue marketing, is responsible for supporting the Business Events team at Tourism New Zealand (TNZ). The agency won this mandate against international competitors through an official tender process.

The main objective for the co-operation is to win more international conferences and events for New Zealand, and to introduce the destination to global associations based in Europe. tmf dialogue marketing will meet decision makers and participate in events in various European countries to enhance contacts and will be the point-of-contact for requests and support for associations, corporates and PCOs (Professional Conference Organisers).

TNZ International Business Events Manager Bjoern Spreitzer says: “TNZ has significantly increased its activity in the business events sector in the last few years, working collaboratively with industry to grow delegate numbers and increase the value of international events in New Zealand. We’re excited to work with tmf dialogue marketing to help win more events from associations, corporations and organisations in Europe.”

The German agency will also organise New Zealand’s annual association event around IMEX 2015. tmf dialogue marketing will work closely with TNZ’s offices in Wellington, Auckland and London, as well as with other relevant partners such as Air New Zealand.

Tourism is among the most important industries in New Zealand and the international business events sector has been identified as a significant opportunity to grow visitor value to New Zealand. TNZ’s management of the Conference Assistance Programme has seen New Zealand bid for 39 events over the last financial year, securing nine international events to date.

A recent win saw a consortium of researchers led by the NIWA (National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research) secure the rights to host the 7th International Symposium on Submarine Mass Movements and Their Consequence in Wellington in November 2015. According to NIWA Marine Geologist and conference convener Joshu Mountjoy, the event will be, “the benchmark conference for submarine landslide researchers around the world.”

10 years partnership! tmf interviews Christoph Tessmar, Director of Barcelona Convention Bureau

Christoph Tessmar, Director of Barcelona Convention Bureau

Christoph Tessmar, Director of Barcelona Convention Bureau

We are proudly looking back on ten years partnership with Barcelona Convention Bureau and would like to thank BCB for the trust in tmf dialogue marketing and a successful and interesting collaboration and inspiring tasks!

We are delighted to continue the fruitful co-operation in 2014 and take the opportunity to talk to our friend and colleague Christoph Tessmar, Director of Barcelona Convention Bureau, about his work, secret places in Barcelona, special challenges and future projects.

Before coming to BCB you have already been in Barcelona working as congress manager. Since you have been working in this city for over 24 years now, please tell us about your most memorable moments in this era? There were many great moments. Without any doubt living the Olympic games of 1992 was an incredible and memorable experience. On a professional way joining Sanofi in 1999 was very important for my career. I have created the Congress Department for the Spanish affiliate and organised around 450 events per year. Maybe the day I’ve got the call from Tourism Barcelona to ask me if I could be interested on the position of managing director for the BCB was the most surprising moment.

What have you done before coming to Barcelona? I was living and working in Mannheim, Germany for the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Mannheim as Area Manager for some Latin American countries. Unfortunately this company doesn’t exist anymore as they were acquired by Roche in 1998. But they were the reason that I moved to Barcelona as they offered me a one year stage in the Spanish affiliate. After a few months I knew that Barcelona is the place I want to live so I decided to stay.

You have been the director of Barcelona Convention Bureau for two years now. What do you currently really enjoy about the position? Is there anything that you would change immediately about the meeting industry, if you could? I really enjoy promoting a city like Barcelona as a perfect destination for events. It is great to see the smile in the faces of the people when I am telling, that I am coming from Barcelona.

Describe Barcelona in five words: Cosmopolitan, Mediterranean, modern, innovative and sexy.

Your favourite place in Barcelona? There are many restaurants with sun terraces in the city and due to the good weather we can enjoy them a lot. Of course being close to the sea is unique.

How do you relax from a stressful working day? With a dinner in one of the great restaurants we have. As I am a big opera fan I can relax a lot attending a performance at the Gran Teatre del Lceu which is one of the most important opera houses in Europe.

As we are pretty coddled with our Franconian wines we would like to know it full well: Are Catalan wines as good as the Catalans say? Indeed they are. Before joining the BCB I was more used to drink Rioja or Ribera del Duero. Now especially due to my Boss I am learning a lot of Catalan wines and we have really some treasures.

Sun, Gaudí and Tapas are the typical things visitors have in mind before travelling to Barcelona – what are typical things they wouldn’t expect in Barcelona? Barcelona celebrates some traditional festivities during the year. You shouldn’t miss once Sant Jordi every 23rd of April. It is the Catalonian Valentine’s Day. The women get roses and the men a book as a gift. The whole city centre is full of selling points of book and roses and very crowded with the “Barcelonians” walking around.

A lot of important music festivals take place in our city like Primavera Sound in May or Sonar in June.

Port Olímpic in Barcelona

©Barcelona Convention Bureau

Can you reveal to us and the readers some unnoticed treasuries in Barcelona (squares, restaurants, insider bars): I am sure that many of you do not know the area of the Born District, with some very nice restaurants and some bars for drinks after dinner.  A new highlight is the recently opened Cultural Centre of the Born where you can find a very interesting expo about the history of Catalunya. It can also be used as venue for events. Another treasure is the restored old part of the Hospital de Sant Pau. I would say it is a must during your visit in Barcelona, another interesting place which can be used for events. Especially for medical congresses or pharmaceutical companies as there shouldn’t exist problems related to the Pharma Codex.

What is your biggest vision for the Barcelona Convention Bureau and what is the most difficult challenge? My biggest vision is the need to adapt on the continuous changes taking place in our industry. Social media are getting more important every day and there is a clear need to change the way of promoting our city.

The biggest challenge is to maintain Barcelona as a top destination for congresses and events. We are in the top 5 of the most important rankings since 2001.

Imagine we were a German event planner. How would you creatively persuade us to choose Barcelona as a destination for our next meeting? Apart of the 5 words mentioned before which describe very well our city, Barcelona offers perfect infrastructures to accommodate any kind of events. It also offers a wide variety of unusual venues form historical to modern not to mention the high hotel offer, many of them recently refurbished or new.

Many thanks Christoph, we look forward to continued cooperation with the Barcelona Convention Bureau and to meeting you again soon in the not too distant future.
